Applying through UCAS: How to Apply

To apply for any undergraduate degree in Britain you must apply through UCAS (Universities Central Admissions Service).

You must do this online at: http://www.ucas.com/apply/

It will cost 5 GBP to apply for one course/university or 15 GBP to apply for up to 6 courses/universities (the most you can apply for is 6). To pay for this you will need an international credit card.

Also you will need:

  • 1 reference from a teacher
  • a personal statement (about 400 words)

Don't worry, you don't need to send any official documents at this stage of the application.

Register

First, you will need to register

Accept the terms & conditions

State that you are registering as an individual

 

 

 

Apply

After you have verified your email registration you will come to the Apply page

To apply you must click on each of the 6 categories and complete each one:

  • courses
  • education
  • employment
  • about you
  • statement
  • reference

 

Courses

It is very easy to enter the courses you want to apply for (remember you can only apply for 6 - at any university)

You must enter the Institution Code & Course Code

Here we have entered B32 & N400 this is for the University of Birmingham and the Accounting & Finance degree.

To find out the codes just click on the: ?

In most cases you do not need to enter a campus code, further details, home, defer and point of entry.

When you have completed this press Finished

You will also need to complete this page

Usually you leave the box empty

And click no (unless you are applying for an Art & Design course)

Next

 

 

 

Education

OK, now Courses is complete you move to education

Choose International (Non-EU) to enter your High School history

If you have also studied an International Foundation Year or one year at a university in your country, then you should also enter this in:

Other

 

Enter your High School performance.

You must enter all your subjects by clicking on add a module/unit

When complete, click finished

Remember, don't worry if you make a mistake, you can always to go back and change it

 

 

 

This student has also studied an International Foundation Year so here we go to Other and choose Foundation Year

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

And enter the details

When complete, click finished

 

 

 

 

 

 

OK, now you have finished the education section, when you are finished click on section finished at the top of the page and move to the next section (employment)

The next 2 sections are:

  • employment
  • about you

These are both quite simple. Employment is usually left blank for most students and for about you, simply check your details and enter your nationality and country of birth.

 

 

 

Statement & Reference

Simply copy & paste your personal statement in to this section. For tips on writing you Personal Statement go here

You only need one referee (a recent teacher)

Enter his details and copy and paste the reference (around 400 words maximum)

 

TIP: Remember you can enter n/a in to a box if you have no answer to give (it means not applicable)

 

 

 

Send to UCAS

OK, when you have finished every section go to View all

And if you are happy with it all click on send to ucas
