The Answer
The Masters degree will take 12 months. Most courses begin at the end of September/ beginning of October (a few universities have courses that start in January).
If your English level is not good enough you can go to the UK before your degree begins to study English. Usually students will study 0-6 months of English before the degree course begins.
You can take TOEFL but most UK universities prefer IELTS. You should try to take the exam before you apply to the universities in Britain but if you think your English is not good enough you can apply without an English score (you will just need to have the right score before your degree course begins). The typical score is 6.5 IELTS or TOEFL 580. Some good universities can accept an IELTS score of 5.5 if you can study a 10 week English course in the summer before your Masters degree.
You can apply at any time in the 12 months before your degree begins. So to study a Masters in Britain next year (Sept 2007) you can apply from October 2006. Only a very few courses have deadlines. However the sooner you apply the better.
The typical cost is: Masters degree 115,000 RMB. Living expenses: 100,000 RMB. Total: 225,000 RMB
But the cost of degree courses can vary a lot, the cheapest are about 98,000 RMB and the most expensive 195,000 RMB. Living expense can vary from 70,000 RMB-115,000 RMB.
