E-Business Masters Degrees
Your QuestionI wonder if you could tell me more information about the major of "e-business". Is e-business closely related to the skillful understanding of computer? If I have an opportunity to apply for this course and hope to do better in this field, what qualification should I have? Thanks!
E-Business is an increasingly popular degree. You can find the universities that have this major by using our course search on the homepage but here are some of the universities:
Aberdeen: E-Commerce Technology
Aston: E-Business
Birmingham: IT in E-Commerce
Dundee: IT & International Business
Essex: E-Commerce Technology
Kent: Management (E-Business)
Lancaster: E-Business & Innovation
Liverpool: E-Business Strategy & Systems
Manchester: E-Business Technology
Newcastle: E-Business & Information Systems
UEA: E-Business
Warwick: E-Business Management
There are 2 kinds of E-Business Course:
(1) Mostly a business degree for people who will work with the internet.
(2) Mostly an IT degree for people who will work within a company in a technical role.
If you want to get a detailed knowledge of IT you should choose the second type.
To give you 2 examples:
1. The Course at Aston University is called E-Business and you will study the following main courses:
Accounting for Non Financial Managers
Developing Business Systems
e-Business Research
e-Business Strategy
e-Commerce Law & Ethics
e-Marketing
Marketing Management
IT Infrastructure for e-business.
So as you can see, this course is basically a course about Business (Finance, Marketing, Strategy etc) but for people who will work with IT (example: an internet company). The university says: “As a business analyst with technological expertise, the MSc e-business graduate will have a competitive advantage in business strategy in addition to the marketing, finance and IT functions. A career within a general management function or specialist areas such as internet consultancy will be accessible.”
2. The MSc E-Business Technology at the University of Manchester. The main courses are:
Distributed Systems and Internet Technology
e-Business
Human Computer Interaction and Web User Interfaces
Industrial Applications
Patterns for eBusiness Applications
Research and Professional Development
Systems Integration
As you can probably see this course is more technical – in fact this one is only for people who have studied Computer Science for their undergraduate degree. These courses are for people who want to work within a Business as an IT expert
To help you choose you should look at the list of Main Modules (courses) for each course. Look to see if they mention a lot of Business courses (with words such as Marketing Management, Accounting etc) or if they mention a lot of technical (IT) courses.
The first kind of course is usually open to people who have graduated ANY major in their Bachelor degree.
The second kind is usually for people who have previously studied Computer Science or sometimes Business
