Your Question

In November I took IELTS and got 6.0, I want to apply for Media in Loughborough, my agency told me I can apply for a conditional offer first and before July next year I just need to get 6.5. I doubt this. I am at Qingdao University, my academic results in the first 3 years are above 80%, do you think I can be accepted by Loughborough, my major is Advertising. I want to apply for a top 10 university in the UK. Can you advise me on which universities I can apply to?

The Answer

Don't worry, it is true that Loughborough can give you a conditional offer. Check out this link below to see all the details about IELTS requirements at Loughborough:

For most courses, with IELTS 6.0, you do not need to re-take IELTS - you just take a summer English course at the University (pre-sessional), lasting 5-10 weeks.

However, if you applying for the MA Media and Cultural Analysis, the IELTS requirement is slightly higher: either a minimum IELTS score of 7.0 or a minimum TOEFL score of 620 (paper-based), 270 (computer-based) or 100 (internet-based).

Alternatively, applicants with a minimum IELTS score of 6.5 or TOEFL 600/250 may be admitted to a 5 week pre-sessional English language course.

The best universities in this field are: UEA, Loughborough, Royal Holloway, Warwick, Goldsmiths College (University of London), Leeds, Sheffield, Westminster, Sussex and Central Lancashire If your grade stays above 80% you should be accepted by most these universities but Loughborough, Warwick, Royal Holloway and UEA will consider the standing of your university in China and do prefer 211 universities.

You should apply to the top universities that you like plus some of the others (which are all good or very good universities).
