I have been working for 2.5 years, my undergraduate major is Hydroelectricity Engineering. I want to go to Manchester to study for a Masters degree but I don't know how to apply, is it possible for me to get a scholarship? What IELTS is needed?

The IELTS requirement for Engineering is: IELTS 6.5 (with no sub test < 5.5), TOEFL 570 with 5.0 in the TWE (Test of Written English) or CBTOEFL 230 with 5.0 in the TWE.

Scholarship information

Manchester and China Scholarship Council Joint Scholarship The University of Manchester and the China Scholarship Council (CSC) award up to ten postgraduate scholarships annually to Chinese nationals who intend to read for a PhD at the University of Manchester.
 
The Scholarship covers tuition fees and an annual maintenance grant of £8,400 for a period of up to three years subject to satisfactory progress.

The China Scholarship Council specifies six priority areas for this scholarship:

  • Telecommunication and information technology 
  • Life science and public health
  • Material science and new material
  • Energy sources and environment
  • Engineering science
  • Applied social sciences and WTO-related areas

Chevening Scholarship

The University of Manchester has worked closely with the Foreign and Commonwealth Office in awarding scholarships to Chinese students to study one-year taught masters degrees.

For the last five years tripartite agreements have existed with the China Scholarship Council and the Ministry of Finance, and more than 80 students have been awarded the Chevening Scholarship through these arrangements.

NOTE: The dealine for this year's Chevening has already passed (September) and you must have 3-5 years work experience to apply
