Your Question

I am a year 3 student in Fudan, my major is Physics. I hope to work in the Finance/Economics industry so I want to study abroad for a related Masters. My performance is very good, especially in Maths but my Mathematical Physical Methodology is not very good. I haven't yet taken IELTS/TOEFL because I'm not sure whether I should go to the UK or the USA. The UK seems easier but for a non-Finance student is it difficult to get a Finance MSc offer? My teacher suggests the UK for its 1 year degree and easier visa application, is that right? Can you give me some advice

The Answer

Well first thing to say is that in Britain many of the best Finance (or Economics) courses are open to people not just from a Finance Bachelor degree backgrounds but also for people from mathematical subjects (such as Physics and Maths). So you can apply for Finance MSc's in Britain.

Your teacher is right, the UK Masters degree will be just one year and the visa is quite straightforward (you just need to prove you have the money to pay for your studies).

I'm a little unclear about your meaning for which subjects you have high grades in, but basically to go to a top UK university you will need most your grades to be around 80% or above (except in meaningless subjects such as PE and politics).

London is perhaps the Finance capital of the world and if you are studying in Britain this is one of the best majors to study. Studying in one of the London universities is a particular benefit to your career.
