Media Studies and related subjects (communication Studies/multimedia studies) open the way to careers in: Media (TV, Film, Magazines) Public Relations, Marketing and Advertising.
Media jobs are keenly sought and highly competitive in Britain. Typical jobs in the above industries are:Advertising Account Executive, Broadcast presenter/journalist, Information officer, Magazine journalist, Market researcher, Multimedia specialist (creates technological information products, e.g. CD ROMs, DVD’s, Websites), Newspaper Journalist, TV/ Film/Video producer/ writerThese jobs can of course be found in media companies (such as TV or Newspapers) but also in Marketing & Advertising Firms, Multinational Companies and Foreign government consulates.
Media Studies is more common at undergraduate level than postgraduate level. As this major is a relatively new one many of the older universities do not specialise in it. Do not be surprised if some of the best Media courses are offered at the newer universities in Britain. Some courses are open only to undergraduates in Media, some are open to graduates in Media or Languages and some are open to graduates of any major.
