Brighton is the only modern university to be named Sunday Times University of the Year (1999), testimony to its pre-eminence in key areas and its status among the vanguard of the “new” universities. It is also one of just two modern universities to have a medical school. The location of the main campus in Brighton, with its trendy arts and social scene, helped push applications through the 20,000 mark last year. The university’s Eastbourne campus is thriving and houses some of the most popular degrees, including sports and health subjects. A further campus, University Centre Hastings, offers a range of courses in business, computing, health, education and sport up to foundation degree and full degree level.
