Competition for places at our Scottish University of the Year has surged; up from 32,000 applicants in 2003 to 36,750 this year. A-level-holding Sassenachs continue to be attracted here in large numbers, not surprising, given Edinburgh’s international reputation as a seat of learning. At the same time, a commitment to recruit more students from within Edinburgh and the surrounding area, as well as more from non-traditional backgrounds, by lowering the entry requirements to some courses, appears to be bearing fruit. traditional courses on offer. The university is one of just five in the UK to offer veterinary medicine and the medical school has a 500-year history. University accommodation is competitively priced from £61 per week. Sports facilities are outstanding.

Edinburgh University has 7 sections, and the dormitories are all around Edinburgh. The accommodation section includes Pollock Halls, Richmond Place, Mylne’s court and West Mains Road (King's Buildings). Pollock Halls is the main section, and Richmond Place is one of the most comfortable accommodations. Its advantage is independent bathrooms, and locating in the centre of the city. It’s convenient for it is close to big supermarkets (such as TESCO). The shortcoming is the high price. Mylne’s court is located in Royal Mile, and it’s a good place for watching performances in the International Art Festival, but not a quiet place. King's Buildings is just in the campus of King's Buildings, very suitable for students studying here. By the way, there are lots of Chinese restaurants around Edinburgh University, and the popular ones are Buffet King, Dragon Way (expensive but can have a discount if you are member of Edinburgh University Students Union), and Rainbow Arch (close to prince street, also can have a discount if you are member of Edinburgh University Students Union).
