The aim of the programme is to provide students with knowledge and skills relating to current debates in the teaching and learning of English in foreign and second language learning contexts. It aims to: - Engage with theory and practice of communicative approaches to the learning and teaching of language - Provide opportunities to observe experienced teachers in a variety of classrooms - Understand the interrelationship between language and culture that underpins the communicative approach - Understand the pivotal role language plays in human social organisation and in education in particular - Examine the relevance of major language learning theories for teaching - Encourage the development of practical teaching and presentation skills Career opportunities The MA Education TEFL programme helps you to become a better English language teacher. The Masters course is designed to be both practical and to give you an introduction to necessary investigation and research tools. We believe that the best teachers are those who can reflect on and investigate practice. There are three core modules (Communicative Language Teaching, Second Language Acquisition and Language Discourse and Society). These MA modules give you a strong grounding in appropriate classroom methodology, course and materials design. Detailed Entry Requirements Entry Requirements for MA Education (TEFL) in the School of Education: - average grade in your Bachelor degree of around 80% from a recognised institution - IELTS 6.5 with no less than 6.0 in each band or TOEFL 580 (paper-based test) or TOEFL 237 (computer-based test) plus TWE 4.0. If you do not pass your English test, we have pre-sessional English courses on offer. - work experience of teaching English is NOT required. However, many students who join the programme will have teaching experience.
