For college diploma holders who want to study a Business Masters. The Diploma course is an intensive 33 week academic English and study skills course for students who have graduated with a sub-BA/BSc Honours level qualification. Students taking the course aim to enter postgraduate masters degree programmes in business or finance-related subjects in the following academic year. The ELT Centre, which has close links with many universities, will assist all students to secure places in UK universities. The Masters degree place may be offered conditional on performance on the Diploma. All students who pass the St Andrews Diploma with 60% are guaranteed a place in the Postgraduate School of Management, University of St Andrerws for their Masters degree. Content and Structure of the Course The course has three basic components - academic study skills, lecture/tutorial courses and general English classes with a strong focus on the language of Business although academic English, study skills and academic lecture courses become predominant. The lecture courses will be specifically designed to enable students to participate on their subsequent masters course. There are examinations in English and Academic Skills at the end of each term. These marks contribute towards the final grades. Each academic lecture course is assessed. The language and study skills components include: practising, reviewing and developing existing language providing survival fluency in idiomatic English improving pronunciation developing cross-cultural awareness familiarising students with the operation of UK universities listening to lectures and note-taking making oral presentations researching, drafting and editing essays improving reading effectiveness The academic component usually includes lecture modules on: Business Simulation Corporate Finance E Commerce An introduction to Human Resource Management and Organisational Behaviour International Management Marketing Management The Practice of Management Statistics
