This taught programme is provided by Cultural & Creative Industries within the School of Humanities. Programme description - Located at the heart of London¡¯s arts and media industries. - Internship programme with opportunities in a range of leading organisations. - Guest lectures from industry professionals and researchers provide up-to-the minute knowledge of current debates and trends. This interdisciplinary programme allows students to examine the structure and history of the cultural and creative industries and explore practical and theoretical issues facing cultural entrepreneurs, professionals and policy-makers. It uses a range of analytical tools from sociology, history and cultural studies, and draws on teaching, research and professional expertise from both King¡¯s academics and professionals working in the field. Core modules look at cultural theory and history and the characteristics of cultural industries and creative organisations. Optional modules include Visual Culture, Cultural Policy, Film & American Culture and a module on the contemporary museum taught at Tate Modern. Students also undertake a cultural internship, writing an industry report on the host organisation. Previous placements include the V&A, the BBC and Film London. Finally, students research and write a supervised dissertation on chosen topic within the field. Programme format and assessment Essays; presentations; internship report; dissertation. Student destinations A wide range of roles in the cultural and creative industries including media management and editorial, performing arts management, arts festival organisation and urban cultural regeneration. A number of our students have gone on to do further academic research. Funding Students are self-funded. Application procedure Your application will be assessed by at least two academics. We aim to process all applications within four weeks although this may take longer in February and March, and over holiday periods. Section 6 of application form Please submit a piece of written work with your application. This should be an academic essay of your choice which you feel best demonstrates your academic abilities and potential.
