专业讲座1 “Artificial Intelligence on Mars: Decision Making for Robot Scientists” 背景介绍

NASA's Spirit and Opportunity rovers have now been exploring Mars for two years, and have made many important discoveries about the planet. We examine how the rovers are controlled now, and look at the weaknesses of this approach. We then discuss what we can expect in future missions, and propose new methods to control the rovers that will enable the rovers to achieve far more ambitious science goals. We concentrate on the planning part of the problem---how to decide what a rover should do each day to accomplish as much science as possible. The methods we propose produce plans that are robust to the uncertainty of operating in an unknown environment, and take into account the potential risks and rewards of different actions.

专业讲座2 “Securing computers against viruses, Spyware, and Trojan horses” 背景介绍

This talk will consider how one can develop systems to protect systems against malicious software: it will specifically focus on computer viruses. Live demonstrations will uncover how computer viruses operate and how they interact with their host system. We will discuss how the application of contemporary programming techniques can create new software that defends against such attacks. We will see how programs can be transformed from malicious to legitimate entities; how this process can be user-directed; and how it surpasses the traditional anti-virus approach.
