Business Studies 商学
Business is by far the largest and most popular subject area amongst Chinese students. As British students often study a Business Masters as part of their job (and therefore part-time), numbers of British students on a typical course at a business schools are typically 50%. This can often be a positive thing as some universities have very diverse intakes and include students from America, Europe, Asia and Africa as well as British students. However, some universities have very high numbers of Chinese students in their business school and if this is a concern for you should pay attention to it (the flip-side being that you are more likely to be accepted by these universities).
All the universities have a business school; some offer a few Masters-degree courses, other offer 12 or more different business majors. Usually the university will offer some advanced business courses and some conversion ones (for graduates of any discipline).
There are, broadly speaking, 6 different specialisations of business major at postgraduate level:
- General Business/Management
- Marketing
- HRM
- Business Finance
- E-Business
- Logistics
A management course is the most general and therefore it is useful in almost all careers, however conversely, it is also the most common. The other options offer a greater degree of specialisation and although they will limit your future career they will probably be more attractive to future employers in that field. Choose whichever suits you the best.A Masters degree in Business is not a pre-requisite for any job; however, it will probably boost your salary and promotion prospects. In China it is becoming increasingly normal for people to have an overseas degree in Business and this is making it more difficult to compete in the job market. However there is no doubt that with its complete applicability to literally every kind of job, a degree in business can greatly improve your prospects.
The Top Universities in this field are:
1. Oxford
2. Warwick
3. LSE
4. Bath
5. St. Andrews
6. Nottingham
7. Manchester
8. Lancaster
9. KCL
10. City
