lindssc1 2009/8/11 12:05Hello all!
I am planning on getting my Masters in Marketing in London within the next year or so. While I study, I will need to get some sort of job to make money for living expenses. Ideally, I would prefer to get a job/internship that relates to my field of study. In the US, there are a lot of paid internships available for students. Is is similar in the UK? If not, do students get internships as well as part-time jobs? Also, how do you find internships? Do the schools help, or do you have to search on your own? How hard are they to find? Thank you for your help in advance! I want to make sure that I will be able to afford living in London while I study before I get there :) |

Cozzie 2009/8/12 15:35Hi
I think it is a little different in the USA where paid internships seem to be more common for students. It is possible to get internships in the summer time and it tends just to be the really keen students who do this. Your department may help you a little but basically you will have to get the position yourself. Part-time work is the more common way to earn money and it tends to be in jobs such as waiting or bar staff. They are not so hard to find. But one thing to note is that masters are really, really hard work if you are studying it over one-year, doing part-time work as well is a big commitment. |

lindssc1 2009/8/13 3:11Hi Cozzie!
Thank you for getting back to me. It sounds like it might be pretty tough to balance work and studying. Do most students rely on loans/financial aid then to live on London? I know that London is an expensive city so I am just curious how young people manage without having some source of income. |

Cozzie 2009/8/14 8:58For masters degree study its normally done through a loan/scholarship for European students. Students from overseas (Asia for example) are often funded by their families. But plenty of students do also take part-time work to help.
