Msc Investment Banking & Finance, University of Glasgow

I have also secured an unconditional offer from the University of Glasgow for the the same Masters which starts in September,right? And coincidently i also applied coz i was really interested in the course contents and it widens the options with the investment banking modules.

The problem is everyone i ask tells me that if i get an offer from Warwick or St. Andrews (to which i've applied as well), i should go for either of them as they have better rankings. In return i always argue that the course is better in Glasgow as opposed to MSc. Finance in the other two.

I've heard it is a good uni. but no one has given a very specific answer as to why i shouldn't choose Glasgow. Is the business school rep bad or that the students don't get jobs after their graduation??

Only if some one could please reply and help us out here. The bottom line is that i want to go to Glasgow but the rankings of Warwick and St. Andrews confuses me. :(

Hi Neha, The problem is that University of Glasgow is not a target school for most of the top tier investment banks (if that is your career goal). Most of them draw the line with Oxbridge, LSE, Imperial & Warwick and graduates from other universities have to be exceptionally good to get through. Also since London is quite far from Glasgow, it will be a logistic nightmare to attend interviews along with studies. So my take is that if you do Glasgow course you will be more competitive in Edinburgh/Glasgow than in London. Also as you rightly said, Warwick always outperform Glasgow in the rankings (and by a huge gap). I would prefer Warwick over Glasgow because of rankings/ brand value; but St. Andrews I am not sure as in the area of finance Glasgow scores over St. Andrews. I have also got an offer from Imperial College, London and will be choosing it most probably as I may not want to take the risk of swimming against the tide, especially in a recessionary economy. Btw, are you from BIT and what do you do now?

I guess you are right and i kinda knew that all along but i don't know, maybe its Scotland i'm attracted to :)Anyways, i applied just 3 weeks back to all these universities so i guess i have to wait till March to hear from them. well, i'm really happy for you, IC is totally great. Naah, even i wasn't that much into St. Andrews. Yes i am from BIT. What about you? Well, im looking for work right now and doing my CMA side by side.
