honeylu 2007/11/26 10:14Universities famous for Logistics are Cranfield, Cardiff and Plymouth.
JUNE 2007/11/30 23:33Thanks for your reply
Leo 2007/12/4 8:53honeylu is right, Cranfield is most prestigious and Cardiff second.
For more details on both check out: Cranfield: http://www.som.cranfield.ac.uk/som/msclogistics/ftmsc/overview.asp Cardiff: http://www.cardiff.ac.uk/carbs/programmes/masters/lom.html A very good subject for future career! |
pearl 2007/12/11 16:29I think it's a good major too. It's practical, and hope 2008 Beijing Olympic game will give more chances to this major :)
BTW, which industry is Logistics part of? |
Tiger 2007/12/12 14:51Express delivery industy
econman 2008/1/10 14:38What about Heriot-Watt, Nottingham and East Anglia University? My friend told me that Heriot-Watt is famous for logistics management too. Is it true? and Please rank among Cranfield, Cardiff and three universities above.
Thank you very much. |
honeylu 2008/1/11 14:35The best one is Cranfield; I have no idea with Heriot-Watt, so can't give any recommends; Nottingham is famous, but for Logistics is ordinary.
harbziad 2008/2/20 21:29Concerning MSc in logistics and supply chain management, could anyone rank these universities: warwick, cardiff, plymouth, westminster and lancaster.
honeylu 2008/2/21 10:50The first three ones order in my mind is: Warwick>Cardiff>Plymouth. For the others, they are not so good as these three.
yan 2008/2/22 10:14How about the career opportunities for Logistics in the UK?
honeylu 2008/2/25 14:20Not bad. Maersk is international, but most staff from APL are locals.
Zoe 2008/2/26 13:44Will it be suitable to develop in China if I study Logistics abroad? What I mean is, cases in China and UK are quite different.
honeylu 2008/2/28 16:14Logistics system in the UK is nearly the same with other European countries, and most companies take the same system in Europe. At present, Logistics in China is still in development, which recruit lots of staff, but with small size and high cost. So at this point, you will have more chances to develop in China.
pearl 2008/3/3 10:39Honeylu is right. China will definitely be the world manufacturing centre, so logistics in China must be international~ although it's developing now.
yan 2008/3/4 13:50How to make decision between Cardiff and Plymouth? I feel these two are quite similar.
pearl 2008/3/5 16:02Cardiff emphasizes on sea transporting, and Plymouth is strong in shipping
voda 2008/3/6 10:39Also Herriot-watt is famous for Logistics
Douglas 2008/3/10 15:10Which university's Logistics emphasizes on retailing? Could anybody give some advice? Thanks ^_^
harbziad 2008/3/18 20:11which university is better concerning logistics? Cranfield or Warwick.
i mean if im accepted at both... which one do i choose? |
pearl 2008/3/19 11:18Of course Cranfield
mvp46 2008/10/30 19:11which UK university offer top up bachelor degree logistics course??i mean good ranking and recognize university.
Leo 2008/10/31 10:13I don't think there is any top-up degree in Logistics. How about a top-up degree in Business and then you can go on to study a Masters in Logistics very easily
mvp46 2008/10/31 13:07no,there're few universities offer top-up degree for logistics course, such as uni of portsmouth, uni of northumbia and so on. Is cranfield or cardiff offer top up degree?? anyone here know abt uni of huddersfield?how abt huddersfield top-up degree?"uni of huddersfield" reputation is second to none amongst businesses in logistics and supply chain management.<-- i saw from another website. Is tht true? Beside tht, the most attract me is tht graduated from Bsc.(hons) logistics offer by uni of huddersfield will be granted FULL exemption from the Professional Qualifying Examiniations for Chartered Membership of the Chartered Institute of Logistics & Transport (CILT) in Hong Kong and in UK and FULL accreditation for Full Membership of the Institute of Purchasing & Supply of Hong Kong (IPSHK). The only thing i wan to know is BSc (Hons) Logistics course in uni of huddersfield recognized by singapore?
Cozzie 2008/11/4 14:35Hi mvp46
Firstly neither Cardiff or Cranfield have logistics top-up degrees (Cranfield is a graduate school only). Huddersfield is certainly very good at logistics. I wouldn't say it is second to none but it is good. Your membership of The Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport will be recognized in the UK as well as Hong Kong so I'm pretty sure it would be recognised in Singapore also |

chandudreamz 2008/11/11 4:37Hello i am interested to join Msc in logistics and supply chain mgt.I already got Offer from 3 of the universities, so could any one help me in picking up the best university of the 3?

Zenith 2008/11/16 20:00HI,now,i'm intersted to study logistics and supply chain field in England.
Could you help me to recommend 4 or 5 universities which are the best or high ranking in logistics field? As I gather information, 1st Cranfield and 2nd Cardiff. Are both correct ? and Has it another universities ? Thanks in advance. |
Leo 2008/11/21 18:10Hi zenith
all the good places to study logistics in the uk are pretty much mentioned in this post Cranfield and Cardiff are definitely 2 of the best. Also check Warwick, Aston, City, Heriot Watt |
arven 2009/1/11 2:37how abt coventry which has also got MBA in logistics
Zenith 2009/1/11 13:48What's difference between Taught programm and Research program if I apply in logistics field?
If I have an international students. Thanks in advance |
Leo 2009/1/12 12:57there are 2 kinds of research programmes (its the same for all major)
1. a research masters (1 year) 2. a phd (3 years) the research masters is often used as an introduction to a phd, they do offer some teaching as part of the course but it is very little and most of the course will be you doing research by yourself. For this reason they are not normally done by fresh graduates who in most cases will choose a taught masters course |
nishi 2009/3/11 15:45hey!!
can anyone tell me what the job prospects in uk are if one completes MSc Logistics and Supply Chain Management in Cranfield,Cardiff, Warwick or Lancaster. Also which uni is better if I want to work in the corporate office of a liner like Maersk, NYK etc.? And which is better for manufacturing sectors? |
Leo 2009/3/12 12:30Job prospects are really hard to qualify because it depends so much on each student's attitude. Universities give very little details about job prospects. For example here is what Warwick say:
After You Graduate Graduates can expect to be employed many different manufacturing and service companies, including providers of third party logistics, aerospace and electrical/electronic products and technology-based firms. Its not really possible to answer your question |
nishi 2009/3/12 14:56thankyou leo...
but what bout the other two questions.. i ve heard cranfield is top notch for automotive studies.. is it really the best for logistics??? |
Leo 2009/3/13 10:42I think it is yes, but the all universities you mention are really good in this field. If you are accepted by all of them then you career prospects will be good no matter which one you choose

ali 2009/4/22 17:57can anybody tell me whether pursuing msc. in logistics is better or mba in logistics??

nishi 2009/4/24 16:15Hey I have a telephonic interview with a Cranfield Msc Logistics Head of Department scheduled a week from today. Can anyone tell me what they're focussing on in these interviews?? Are they testing language?? Or checking how focussed you are?? etc
evilryu 2009/5/6 19:53I am in a similar dilemma.
I have been accepted by Warwick and Cranfield for the MSc in Logistics and Supply Chain management programme. The general impression that I got from reading the posts, is that Cranfield is the better institution for studying Logistics. However, there are two things that make the decision difficult for me: 1st, the course at Warwick is nearly 4000 Pounds cheaper (EU Tuition Fees) 2nd, The Warwick Manufacturing Group have done some remarkable changes. The course content involves a lot of practical studies (e.g. simulation software (SAP and Witness) etc.) Is Cranfield really the better institution for Logistics studies? If yes, why??? Any advice would be appreciated. |
Cozzie 2009/5/7 19:08Cranfield has the largest Logistics teaching and research department in Europe and that is why it is so highly rated, the institution as a whole has really close links to industry and so is known for its great employment record.
But you are right WMG also have a great track record and as a main university its so much cheaper, its a great alternative. Try writing to Cranfield to express your dilemna and ask them to explain why their degree is worth so much more - maybe the answer can help you. If it was me, I'd choose Cranfield if I could afford it but if not I'd be very excited to go to Warwick |
nishi 2009/6/2 16:03hey!!
I got thru cranfield and cardiff for logistics and i cant make up my mind. can some one tell me which uni is better in terms of course, living expenses, social life, part time job availibility, employment record etc. |
Cozzie 2009/6/6 18:55Congratulations! That's 2 great offers so it is a difficult decision to make. Here's what I think:
Course: Cranfield is more famous Living expense: Well, the Cardiff course is much cheaper, living expenses will be similar, Cardiff slightly cheaper Social Life: Cardiff much, much better. Cardiff is a great city, Cranfield is in the countryside, very quiet Part-time job: As a city Cardiff will be easier to find work Employment record: I'm pretty sure Cranfield would be stronger Overall decision: Not sure!!! ![]() |
nishi 2009/6/8 15:23Hey Cozzie!!
Thank you so much.. Though Cardiff sounds very tempting with a better social life, more like a the right dose of everything. I think I'll choose Cranfield cause if I'm spending it that much I should do so on the better course and a better chance at a good company. |
nishi 2009/6/9 16:28Hey i just thought i could share this with everyone. Its from a guy who did this course in Cranfield!
==== QUOTE ==== Both the Institutes are well regarded and have their strengths, I think we can break the comparison into three branches , Cost, Course and Placements. Cost- In terms of cost both Tuition Fees and Living Cardiff is Cheaper than Cranfield, This is because Cardiff is in Wales ,Cranfield is 30 mins from London which is more pricy, Also The class size in Cardiff is between 120-130 per class, whereas in Cranfield it is 40-50 so in terms of class teacher to student ratio it is much better than Cardiff, Overall Cranfield is a much smaller University with only 500 students, Cardiff has more than 5000 students with many courses. Dealing in small numbers the experience is more interactive at an extra cost. Course-In terms of course content Cardiff follows the Supply Chain Lean approach whereas Cranfield Course is more Supply Chain Agile approach, The course in Cranfield is far more rigorous than Cardiff and is more suited for services industry while Cardiff is more suited for Manufacturing , also the second part of the course where one does the thesis Cranfield arranges the students to work onsite with a company on a small improvement projects, This helps them acquire real on ground knowledge and also with getting a job later, The Thesis in Cardiff is more Research based and gives you an opportunity to research on a particular area of interest, In terms of Course recognition within the Supply chain community the Cranfield Degree carries a lot more weight, however the Cardiff university Name is know to a far wider audience, In India hardly anyone knows about Cranfield where as Cardiff is an established brand, In terms of international exposure Cardiff is dominated by Indian students whereas Cranfield has a very mixed representation, Placements- Unlike India, In UK the system of placements is minimal , students are open to apply to any company through their online application process, Many companies ask for an indefinite work permit especially if you don't have work experience and join as a Management Graduate, if you have work Ex then it is much easier to get a job with the two year work visa you get after the course, Cranfield being next to London it is easier to Network/ Look around for jobs , Myself being from Cranfield I would definitely rate it higher, however a word of caution it is recommended that you have some work ex in order to get fully value from a UK masters degree, and also to have a better footing in the job market, ===== UNQUOTE ===== HOPE THIS HELPS LIKE IT HELPED ME! CHEERS |
nemesis3 2009/7/9 19:01Can u please inform me about how much work experience is adequate to get a job in uk after master's?
I'm planning to do MSC supply chain and logistics and my work experience in Pakistan is about 6 months? is that enough? |

pargaman 5/17 19:49Hello
I have received an offers from: Greenwich, Brunel, Kingston, and Westminster. I would like to know what is the best universitie among these four in Logistics? Tks a lot,for your comments ... |

gizmo 6/15 17:55I've got entry fo masters degree International Logistics and Supp Chain Mgt at Kingston University and Log and Supp Chain Mgt at University of Warwick.. I want your views in helping me to make a decision..
Which one is the best according to you? |
pargaman 6/29 20:07Hi Gizmo, undoubtedly U. Warwick is the best between them. What's about U. Greenwich?
elliebarn 7/21 3:21The best course - will ultimately be the best course - to suit you and which "field" in logistics you think you want to go into - in that the areas which interests you most - ie don't go to a university where all the professors studied in retail, 3rd party logistics, transport, warehousing etc. if you want to do modelling, and statistical planning, forecasting etc.
The best university is the one which means, you're most likely to go to the lectures - get some good experience and then a great job. I got my Msc from Heriot -watt university (1 of the original 3 logistics universities offering MSc's - cranfield, heriot-watt in edinburgh, and cardiff) 9 yrs later, i'm earning 60k + - and the MSc has definietly helped me in getting jobs, being taken seiously, and jumping up the career ladder. I've also heard Huddersfield, Lancaster, and Warwick are good - but "good" really depends where in logistics you want to work afterwards...... Seriously - check out the professors teaching the courses interests - if they're not similar to yours (and i mean in logistics, not hobbies !!) - then look at a different university. Also, once in - get some job experience - picking in a warehouse, packing, doesn't matter - will stand you out - and may help you get that elusive dissertation at a blue chip co. (it works!) Hope not confused people, and i've been of help ? |
