Naomi 2008/1/10 22:55Hey, I'm graduating this year in Politics but have decided that I want to change direction and go to art school, potentially to go into illistration.
I didn't take art a-level because couldn't afford itat the time, and having been studying politics for 4years I don't have much in the way of a portfolio. I've been looking at foundation courses in London and Brighton but I'm over 21 so most art schools say I don't need the standard requirements but don't say what I do need. Does anyone know howand what I would need to do? Or any general advice? Thanks |

Leo 2008/1/13 10:56Hi Naomi
Basically, if you can submit a portfolio you have a chance to be accepted regardless of your background. So, if you have a series of illustrations that you have drawn over the past few years, you can submit this and if you have talent then it might be ok Are you thinking to study at postgraduate or undergraduate level? |

Naomi 2008/1/14 8:53Cool - thankyou. I was assuming UG as I haven't any previous art experience.
Would the illustrations need to be finished pieces? As I have a fair amount of rough sketching but not much in the way of finished drawings. |

James132 2008/1/17 8:11Hey, im in the same situation. I studied a Physics degree but am seriously considering changing direction as well and perusing Art while I still have the chance. I used to draw alot when I was still at school and loved the subjuct but decided not to study it at GCSE even though I was recomended to do it. Thought science would be a better direction at the time.
Havn't drawn anything seriously in some time, how would I create a decent portfolio??? Anyone got any further advice? Would I stand a chance of getting into a foundation course at Camberwell College of Arts? Thx James |
